Ukraine has started chairing EnergyCommunity
30.11.2021Ukraine has taken over the presidency of the Energy Community for a term of one year after receiving the baton from Serbia, said Deputy Energy Minister for European Integration Yaroslav Demchenkov.
"Today, at the 19th meeting of the Energy Community Council of Ministers, I had the honor to accept the presidency of Ukraine in the Energy Community from Serbia for a term of 1 year," he wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday evening.
For its part, the Ministry of Energy said in a statement on its website that Ukraine will make every effort during its presidency to increase the role of energy solidarity, which is extremely important in the context of the international energy crisis.
At the same time, according to Demchenkov, quoted by the ministry, the Energy Community is a guarantor of European integration for Ukraine and offers a format in which it can address important issues on an equal footing with the European Union and the Contracting Parties.
"We will make proposals to ensure solidarity at the regional level within the framework of the RESP - Regional Energy Partnership initiative and plan to discuss it at a special meeting in the near future," Demchenkov said.
He also noted that the meeting adopted the EU legislative packages "Clean Energy for All Europeans" I and II and the EU's proposed General Guidelines for the adopted Roadmap for decarbonisation for the Contracting Parties to the Energy Community.
"The adoption of the guidelines for the adoption of the Decarbonization Roadmap is an important signal of the Energy Community's readiness to work with the EU and other international partners to achieve a zero balance of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050," he said.
According to him, Ukraine supports the initiative of the Energy Community Secretariat to establish national decarbonisation funds, co-financed by revenues from carbon pricing and EU grants.
As it was reported, Artur Lorkowski, Vice-President of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management of Poland, has been elected the new Director of the Energy Community Secretariat instead of Janez Kopac since December 1.
The Ukrainian delegation is taking part in the activities of the Energy Community - the 19th meeting of the EU Council of Ministers and the 62nd meeting of the EU Permanent High Level Group are taking place from 29 to 30 November.
Ukraine became a full member of the EU on February 1, 2011.
