The EU Delegation: Ukraine is ready for FTA with the EU

15.12.2015

Ukraine is ready for a free trade area (FTA) with the European Union. Further reform postponement will alienate Ukraine from the European Community, according to the EU.

It was told by the first secretary of the department of trade and economy of the EU Delegation in Ukraine Jocelyne Guyton on December 14, RBC-Ukraine reports.

"When Poland and the Czech Republic entered to the FTA, they were not ready too. Ukraine is probably well prepared to operate in a free trade area now. The national currency is devalued, there is a big international support, the Russian market is closed, and there is a great motivation to look for new markets. We hear that we should wait. We can wait constantly, but further reforms postponement will alienate Ukraine from the European community "- said Mr. Guyton.

He also noted, that for seven years, during which Ukraine and the EU have been negotiating for a free trade area, Ukraine "did not changed much", while its competitive countries - Moldova and Georgia - " changed very much".
