07.12.2015

Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia will create a consortium for the freightage from Asia to Europe.

At the meeting on November 28 in Istanbul the representatives of the large transport and logistics operators of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia decided to establish a consortium with the purpose to transport goods from China to Europe via Ukraine.

Chinese company Mishgeng Logistics, KTZ Express (Kazakhstan Railways “daughter"), the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping, Azerbaijan company Caravan Logistics and Trans Caucasus Terminals (a subsidiary of the Georgian Railways) are ready to become the founders of the consortium. The Turkish side will act as an associate member.

According to the director of the Trans Caucasus Terminals Mr. Levan Sulaberidze, the company together with the consortium co-founders have already started to work in all the countries located along the Trans-Caspian transport route. "It was decided to organize the first demonstration train from China to Europe and run a regular container service in this direction" -  said Mr. Sulaberidze at the meeting on November 28.

As part of the project it is planned to transport the first few thousands of containers from China to Turkey and Europe through the territory of Georgia  and to transport goods in Northern and Eastern Europe via Ukraine.

"Thus, Georgia will return to the traditional historic trade route, called "Silk Road"- said Mr. Sulaberidze.

One of the components of the Trans-Caspian transport route should be the railway Baku-Tbilisi-Kars with total length of 826 km. Its putting into service is planned in 2016.

Trans-Caspian international transport route is a project initiated to improve transit potential and development of the Caspian region countries. This route runs from China through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and further to Europe.
